Posy ring

A seventeenth century North country English posy ring,

yellow gold, the exterior engraved in an idiosyncratic script

' My .loue .to .the. sal. endless. be '
(My love to thee shall endless be)

The use of 'sal' for 'shall' is found in Northern English
dialects from the 14th century onwards.

Circa 1690 .

Gauge: 2.7 mm
