A Pair of Silver 'Poppy Head' Peppers by Edward Hutton,

both in the form of seed heads, left after the flowering of the Poppy. The surface of the peppers
have been textured to mimic that of a natural Poppy head, with a fine gilded finish overlay. Like a true
seed head, the pepper is released from holes beneath the crown.

Hallmarked: London, 1891
Maker: Edward Hutton

In order to spread the seeds of the Poppy , it is customary to pick the seed head after flowering,
and shake it over the ground, in order to release the seeds. These peppers have been designed to
mimic this action, releasing pepper when they are shaken.
