An Antique English Necklace,

a tapering rivière of oval figured agates, in autumnal colours,
mounted in yellow gold,

English, circa 1800

In his book "The Natural History of Gems and Decorative Stones" (1867), C W King explains the intriguing moss
like patterns, that are clearly visible in these stones, as "appelations (that) are not petrified vegitation as they appear, but
particles of clay suspended in the pure silicious matter of the Agate, whilst yet in a liquid state."

Length: 45cm
