A 'Man-in-the-Moon' Ring

set with an oval moostone, carved with the face of the 'Man-in-the-Moon'.
The band, as well as the back of the moonstone, marked with a stylised 'S'.

probably English,
circa 1880.

Ring size: Q

It is said that the face, which appears on the Moon’s surface, can only be seen when the Moon is bright and full.
In this way this sophisticated carved Moonstone, captures the mysterious and fleeting nature of the ‘Man-in-the-Moon’.
Given the natural schiller of the moonstone the ring needs to be seen at the correct angle, so the light hits it in a
particular way, for the face to be revealed.
