A pin by Carl Fabergé,
an enamelled & jewelled
gold mounted nephrite pin in the form of a barrel,
the nephrite barrel encircled by a line of rose diamonds and
two bands or red guilloche enamel
The barrel measures 9mm across
Workmaster Alfred Thielemann,
St. Petersburg, circa 1905,
inventory number: 79734.
The use of the barrel motif is an interesting reflection of the source of a number of Faberge's customers' wealth.
In London The Watney family and Mrs Greville the McEwan brewery heiress were frequent visitors to Faberge's
Branch. Mrs Greville close friendship with King Edward VII gave rise to much jealously among members
of Edwardian society. Mrs Greville resolutely withstood the gossip and quipped
'I'd rather be a beeress than a peeress'
