Faberge frog

A nephrite frog by Carl Fabergé,

carved from a single piece of nephrite in a crouched position,
its eyes set with rose diamonds, the rounded form and
observation of the animal’s musculature displays the
influence of Japanese works of art on Faberge’s
hardstone carvings.

Fabergé choose stones which mimicked the skins of the animals he carved. His choice of nephrite
from the Irtusk region of Siberia with its wet sheen is perfect for representing a frog.
