Faberge's St. Petersburg Shopl.

A photograph annotated by Eugène Fabergé
from the Wartski Fabergé archive
.

The above original photograph showing the interior of Fabergé's St .Petersburg branch was given by Eugène Fabergé; eldest son of Carl,
to Wartski. Eugène captioned the photograph in his own writing on the reverse, identifying the employees in the picture.

He wrote in French,

'Premises of the Jeweller to the Imperial Court of Russia, 24 Morskaya, St. Petersburg, at the back the two elderly
collaborators Wilhelm Goetz and George Kral, at the till Nicolas Prikastshikow, on the left Nicolai Agwasdine,
head of the silver department, the shop boy Alexei, on the staircase Paul Blomerius,  foreign correspondent'

Henry Bainbridge in his account of Fabergé; Peter Carl Faberge; His life and work names a number of people who worked
for Fabergé. He mentions three of those in the photograph: Goetz a Russian of German ancestry; Kral a Czech born in Russia and
Blomerius whose family hailed from Sweden. Bainbridge particularly praises Blomerius. As manager of the firm's London branch he
would have frequently dealt with Blomerius in his capacity as foreign agent. He fondly describes him as 'the live wire of the house of
Fabergé, in its later years, especially in its foreign undertakings, and the success of the firm abroad was in large measure due to
his energy'. The shop boy Alexis, Mr Agwasdine and Mr Prikastshikow seem to be previously unknown.
