A Gold and Enamel Love Token by Child and Child

in the form of a heart, decorated with a deep red enamel, applied over an etched background.

English, circa 1890

Length: 1cm
(from top of the heart)

£600

The company of Child and Child was an important firm of jewellers, working during the latter part of the 19th Century.
They were patronised by many of Victorian society's artistic elite, including Edward Burne Jones,
who designed a number of jewels, which were then made by the firm (for an example of an Edward Burne-Jones
jewel made by Child and Child, please follow link to our archive).

Although not attributable to Burne-Jones this pendant
does employ one of his favourite conceits, that of the heart.
