Antique gold comet necklace chain

An antique gold ‘comet’ long chain,

formed from eighteen-carat gold oval openwork motifs
each depicting a stylised comet
joined by textured ‘four circle’ links.

Jewels relating to the heavens,
such as stars and crescents, were popular
throughout the nineteenth century. 
The design of this chain may refer to
the reappearance of Halley’s Comet in 1835.

Marked with French eagle’s head and deposé mark
