Jewelled Russian bangle

A jewelled pre-revolutionary Russian bangle ,

silver, the terminals set in gold with stained chalcedonies known as 'mecca stones',
the shoulders mounted with tapering diamonds.

The bangle is made from virtually pure silver, the Russian hallmarking system classified a
metal's purity in terms of zolotniks. 96 zolotniks represented pure silver, this bangle is
95 zolotniks. One feature of this level of purity is the metal does not tarnish;
it is also relatively malleable allowing the bangle to be taken on and off easily.

Workmaster: Edward Helenius,
St. Petersburg, 1908-1917.

Helenius was a workmaster for Carl Fabergé, Goldsmith to the Imperial Court of Russia and
a number of similar bangles were made by Fabergé.
